What forms of ID do Arizona Notaries accept for notarization?

A: Arizona law (A.R.S. § 41-311(11)) requires identification to be current, unexpired, and contain a photo, signature, and physical description (or unique identifying number).

Acceptable IDs include:

  • Arizona driver’s license or non-operating ID
  • Driver’s license or ID card from another U.S. state
  • U.S. passport
  • U.S. military ID
  • Tribal ID card issued by a federally recognized tribe
  • Inmate ID card issued by the Arizona Department of Corrections

⚠️ Not acceptable: Social Security cards, birth certificates, credit/debit cards, or IDs without a photo/signature.

👉 If no ID is available, a credible witness who personally knows the signer (and presents valid ID) may be used.
